GIF stands for Graphic Interchange Format; it is the bitmap image format that supports the image files not only static but animated too. It was developed by CompuServe led by American computer scientist Steve white.

The compression is done without the loss of information under LZW method that is lossless that’s why gif file’s data is not loss.
